Identity theft in america

Identity theft in america
Identity theft is a criminal activity whereby an individual knowingly uses or transfers another person’s personal identification information without lawful authority, for the purposes of committing or abetting a crime. ID theft is the fastest rising crime in America. About 10 million Americans were victims of ID theft last year. They roughly lost $5 billion due to this crime. It is difficult to pin out the exact number of ID theft cases that occur since police departments usually classify them as different crimes, like mail theft, credit card fraud, internet fraud and other crimes. Some of the tips that you should follow in order to minimize the risk of your identity being stolen include promptly collecting your mail in the mail box. Do not leave it overnight or during the weekends. Take a review of your consumer reports from time to time to ensure that they reflect your purchases during a period. Any unwanted documents that contain personal information should be shred and destroyed. Be cautious when giving out your personal information. Do not give out your personal details over the phone or the internet unless you are the one who started the conversation or the website uses SSL. Also, avoid carrying your birth certificate or social security number. Have them placed at a secure location. Other things you can do to minimize identity theft include memorizing your passwords. Do not write them on papers or on other materials that you carry along. Also, it is good not to have common facts about you like your birth date, middle name, etc as your password as one can easily find these out. Another caution is to ensure that you do not leave your receipts at the gas station or shopping mall after paying for the services. Make sure you immediately report any lost or stolen credit card If you have fallen victim to a mail theft, report this immediately to the US Postal Inspection office in your area. If you are a victim of credit card fraud, call your credit card fraud office and request an “alert” to be placed on your credit card. Ask for copies of your credit card statements to check whether any purchases or accounts have been fraudulently opened in your name without your knowledge. Contact your creditors and bank in writing and by phone and report the fraud. Have a “flag” placed on your account by your bank and ask them to alert you in case there is any unusual activity going on.

Magnesium and migraine

Magnesium and migraine
Many specialists believe that magnesium is definitely one of the main things that can help to prevent migraines. The association between magnesium and migraines has already been studied by experts, many a times. It is a fact that magnesium is ones of those minerals that one cannot survive without. This is because it has many important roles in the body, like regulating the serotonin stages, a chemical of the brain that is known to be concerned in the start of a migraine. When it comes to the brain, the variable levels of magnesium are able to send the blood vessels into a spasm, stretching fragile nerve endings as well as causing some pain and discomfort in the process. Adding to the pain, the people that suffer from migraines may also experience vomiting or nausea, sudden sensitivity to sound and light as well as unusual visual changes. Certain experts found an interest in the topic of magnesium and migraine headaches in the year of 1992 when they started to measure the levels of magnesium found in migraine sufferers. They found it rather ironic that almost half of the testers were found to have very low levels of the mineral magnesium in their blood. Since then, many other researches have conducted studies regarding magnesium and migraine sufferers. The result of this caused many doctors to start prescribing magnesium to their patients that suffered severe headaches and the majority of the patients were relieved. If you are one that is suffering from migraines, before consulting your doctor try it on your own. All you have to do is eat the correct foods; foods that are high in magnesium are avocados, sunflower seeds, green leaf vegetables, seafood, bananas, whole grains and beans. You have nothing to loose by trying this as there are no side effects. If this method doesn’t work after approximately a month, consult your doctor and ask them if they have alternative remedies that they can recommend. In order for the magnesium and migraine method to be effective, one should consume the mineral on a daily basis. Specifically 400mg of magnesium a day, or increase the dosage if it is not working. But remember to give it some time, the migraine will not just disappear after you eat an avocado, you have to use the diet continuously and correctly if you want it to produce positive results. Your migraine may not be 100% cured with this method, but it could control how often they occur and the intensity at what they occur.

Medical identity theft
Identity theft is a crime that has been on the rise in the recent past. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the rate of this particular crime has gone up considerably as compared to the past. Identity theft involves obtaining by wrongful means another person’s information or data and using it to commit fraud at the expense of the owner. There are various types of identity theft. Medical theft is one such type. This involves obtaining by wrongful means medical information and or records of another person with the sole intention of gaining at the expense of that person. Research carried out recently indicates that the most common form of medical identity theft involves wrongful or erroneous entry of medical information of a particular person. The danger of medical identity theft is not only the fraud involved but also the fact that it could lead to fatal results, since it could lead to wrong diagnosis thus wrong medication. A case of medical theft is more complex than it is even for financial theft and fraud, the reason being it may not be easy to recover the damage done through the medical identity theft. Medical identity theft is not easily detected and can take the victim a couple of years before realizing the mishap. It is unfortunate however, to note that even after discovering the error, victims of medical identity theft do not have clear means through which they can recover the money lost through medical identity. In addition, there are no legal provisions to allow such victims to be allowed to correct any error or wrongful information that may be in their medical records. Medical identity theft as mentioned earlier can lead to adverse effects including death due to alteration of the medical records. Some of the information that is of interest to impostors of medical identity theft includes information regarding health insurance. Medical identity theft is classified into two major categories namely financial and medical. Medical theft is where the medical information of the fraudster is mixed up with that of a genuine patient, and thus the medical records contain numerous errors. Financial theft on the other hand involves medical bills that one is unaware of. Most health institutions are always able to deal with the financial aspect of medical identity theft as opposed to the medical effects. There are various reasons as to which people commit medical identity theft. While for most it is a case of desiring to have their medication controlled, for others it is the desire to have an unwarranted medical cover for which they would not qualify for in normal circumstances. Medical identity theft is thus the most serious type of identity theft. ?
